bring back the skill quests
I started an assassin a while back, and recently a ranger in Nightfall, and I really miss the Prophecies style skill quests, everyone doesn't have THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS to buy all the skills they need, so I think in the new one (like Chapter 4) they really should put a few skill quests in.
What do you think?
[sorry if this has been posted before, I did do a forum search beforehand]

I never did understand why skills weren't provided as quest rewards in Factions or Nightfall like they were in Prophecies. Granted the rewards (xp and gold) are a bit higher, with more weapon skins, armor skins, etc. There is more to spend gold on. And with 290 elites, you're looking at (assuming 1k per Cap Sig) 290k worth of Signets of Capture for Elite Capping for the current 3 campaigns.

/signed, but I want more of a choice of which skills we get from the quests.
One thing that bugged me about Prophecies was, especially for Elementalists, the lack of different, viable builds early on. You want to play a geomancer? TOO BAD! FIRE FOR YOU!

we are given more than enough skill points, why not just up the amount of gold from the quests...

Skill quests add to the immersion. Now this is like some tacky racing game where you go to the store to buy all your upgrades. Plus I'm not made of money like you guys who have FoW armor on all your chars. Richest I've ever been is 70k.
They give us so many skill points you will never use them all, I feel they should allow you to exchange them for gold or perhaps 10 skill points = a skill you can buy from a trainer at half price? Or something like that.

Look, its simple... they removed skill quests for a very good reason, to allow people choice and to stop the mad whining about cookie cutter builds all the way through prophecies...
although i'm not surprised... we have a choice now and you guys complain

What's needed is more incentive to do quests and less monetary reliance on acquiring skills.
Although skill quests would help against those 2 things, I think we should brainstorm new and fun ideas to tackle each separately

I couldnt' find it on search, but one of the best suggestions that I've seen ever is giving quests (in NF, anyway) with a reward of hero skill points. Hero skill points could then be used at the hero skill trainers to buy skills for heroes and characters. Kind of like giving a skill reward, without giving the same reward to every character taht does that specific quest.
If they were to do this, I'd also recommend opening up a few more skills per trainer per profession, but honestly, just giving people more skills to choose from would help a lot. 1k per skill adds up fast.

Yeah, that was a neat suggestion Orinn.
I really miss the excitement of finding a quest that offered a new skill. It was like finding and collecting pokemon. lol

exactly, I think getting a new skill should be more than just *walks to skill trainer, doles out hard-farmed-cash, walks away*
it should be an adventure!

And I agree with Lonesamurai's idea on increasing quest money.
I re-did City in DoA last night and got a nice 200g as reward.

i like the idea of bringing back skill quests. There was a lot of skills that i tried out just because i earned them in proph and then realy like them. Not only that but it makes the quest more rewarding. Money is fairly easy to earn, but at 1k a skill, it gets boring farming just for skill cash. maybe skill points if not the skills themselves. something would be nice. The new set up is ok i dont mind earning the gold and getting my skills that way, but, the added incentive of skills would make me more willing to do all the quest instead of skipping the ones that look boring.
but thats just me.

Don't forget, in NF you can get skills from the hero skill trainers for free (if you unlock it using those trainers, your character also learns the skill).

Another thing to remember is Prophecies had quests with skill rewards but Factions/Nightfall have money rewards. The money rewards being in the form of tokens to be traded in. 5 Kournan coins can be traded in for a superior salvage kit (sell value 1k); also of course the endgame amulet of the mists and book of secrets that can be sold for comparable profit.
Not everyone buys every skill and would rather get the cash. If you plan out your build you really only need 8. Even with just 16 well picked skills you can be versatile in your builds.
So I think you must ask yourself which system you like more; the skills or the monies?

I liked the prophecies style scenario of getting skills as rewards from quests and its very rewarding for people that tend to do most of the side quests like me but I think if we were to keep the system now I'd be happy with that all the same- if like someone suggested, we had slightly bigger cash rewards.

I liked the skill rewards... it meant I could save armor for stuff I needed, such as armor. Skill quests were the only side quests I went out of my way to do. I have no drive to smash through horde after horde of afflicted for a quest reward of 500g, when I could've cleared the troll cave in 4 minutes to the same effect.
Gaile has said in the past that the reason they dropped the quests was that they did not want to "force" players into certain builds... well if you're still using a pre-sear skill set end-game you have serious issues. The skills come from all skill lines and allow a bit of diversity to augment the skills that you buy at the trader.
